Table of Contents

If you’ve ever driven down Wears Valley Road and noticed goats grazing on a rooftop, you weren’t imagining things. Goats on the Roof of the Smoky Mountains is one of Pigeon Forge’s most unique roadside attractions—part family fun, part thrill ride, and completely unforgettable.

Located at 1341 Wears Valley Rd, Pigeon Forge, TN 37863, this destination is more than just a place to see goats. It features a mountain coaster, gem mining, sweet treats, and a gift shop that covers two levels. Whether you’re traveling with kids or just looking for something out of the ordinary, it’s a quick stop that delivers big on fun.

What is Goats on the Roof?

At first glance, Goats on the Roof of the Smoky Mountains sounds like a quirky roadside attraction—and it absolutely is. But it’s also a surprisingly entertaining and well-rounded stop that combines family-friendly activities with local charm. Located just a few minutes off the main Parkway in Pigeon Forge, this attraction is known for exactly what its name says: real goats living and roaming on the rooftop of a large mountain-themed building.

But the goats aren’t just decoration. Visitors can interact with them in a fun and unique way. You won’t be climbing on the roof yourself—instead, you’ll use a hand-powered pulley system known as the “goat-cycle” to send a canister of goat feed from the ground up to the rooftop. As you pedal, the can rises, and the goats eagerly gather to enjoy their snack. It’s fun for kids, Instagram-worthy for visitors, and it gives everyone a chance to get involved.

Things to Do at Goats on the Roof

Goats on the Roof of the Smoky Mountains isn’t just a quick photo stop—it’s a full experience designed for families, kids, and curious travelers looking for something unexpected. Whether you’re feeding rooftop goats, racing down the mountain on the Goat Coaster, or indulging in homemade fudge, this Pigeon Forge favorite offers a variety of activities in one place. Here’s what you can do while you’re there:

Ride the Goat Coaster

The Goat Coaster at Goats on the Roof is one of the most exciting alpine coasters in the Smoky Mountains—and it’s built right into the hillside behind the attraction. This nearly one-mile-long track takes riders on a twisting, turning ride through the woods, with speeds reaching up to 30 miles per hour.

What makes it unique is that you control the speed. Using hand brakes, you can cruise gently through the trees or push the pace for a more thrilling ride. Carts are built for one or two riders, and the ride lasts about seven minutes from top to bottom. It’s open year-round, including rainy days.

Feed the Goats on the Roof

The namesake goats live on the rooftop of the building and are a major highlight for visitors. Using a unique pulley system known as the “goat-cycle,” you can send a canister of goat feed from ground level up to the rooftop. As the can ascends, the goats gather to enjoy the snack—and you get a close-up look at one of the quirkiest features in town.

It’s one of the most interactive animal experiences in the area, and it’s especially popular with younger visitors and families.

Try Gem Mining

Step over to the outdoor gem mine and try your hand at panning for real stones. Guests can purchase buckets of gem-rich soil and sift through them using a water sluice system. It’s a hands-on, educational activity where you might uncover treasures like quartz, amethyst, pyrite, or even a sapphire.

Buckets vary in size and price, making this a flexible option for families or groups with different budgets.

Satisfy Your Sweet Tooth

The sweets counter offers a variety of classic and homemade treats, including:

  • Fudge made in-house with rotating flavors
    Hand-dipped ice cream
  • Old-fashioned candies and snacks
  • Fresh popcorn and seasonal goodies

It’s the perfect way to wrap up your visit—especially if you’re looking to bring a taste of the Smokies back with you.

Play a Round at Jurassic Tymes Mini Golf

One of the newest additions to the attraction is Jurassic Tymes Mini Golf, a 36-hole course featuring lifelike animatronic dinosaurs and scenic landscaping. It’s family-friendly and offers a fun challenge for kids, couples, and groups looking to extend their visit.

Gift Shop & Parkway Store

Shop the Two-Story Gift Shop

From humorous shirts to regionally inspired products like moonshine jelly or old-fashioned kitchenware, there’s something for just about every type of visitor.

The shop also features seasonal items and plenty of quirky finds that make for great gifts or road trip keepsakes.
